Grieving family face wait over cause of fatal blaze

THE grieving family of a father and daughter who perished in a house fire face an agonising wait to learn the cause of the blaze.

Anthony O'Brien (29) and his five-year-old daughter Nadine died in a fire at a house at Killeen Heights, Oakpark, Tralee, Co Kerry.

Gardai are continuing to investigate the cause of the fatal blaze and have not yet ruled out foul play.

A garda source said it could be "a number of days" -- or possibly even next week -- before the preliminary results of the forensic investigation of the scene would be known.

The investigations of the scene were expected to be concluded last night.

The family had already expressed their wish that Nadine would be buried with the father she adored in a single coffin so she could be "forever in his arms".

Their remains will be removed from the Gleasure Funeral Home tomorrow at 4.30pm to St Brendan's Church, Tralee, followed by funeral Mass on Thursday morning at 11am.

Nadine's mother Kelly had escaped the blaze when her husband helped to lower her to the ground from an upstairs window.
