Grieving family face heartbreaking journey for funeral of stabbed mother of three
THE Irish family of a murdered mother of three is preparing to make the heartbreaking journey to Wales for her funeral.
Charmaine MacMuiris (37), whose family is from north Co Kerry, was found dead at her home in Carmarthen, Wales, on Christmas Day.
The grandmother of one had suffered multiple stab wounds.
A 28-year-old man arrested at the scene remains in custody.
David Thomas O'Sullivan has been charged with her murder and is to appear in court in March.
Ms MacMuiris's father, John Fitzmaurice, is originally from Leam, in Kilflynn, Co Kerry, and the family regularly visits the area. He had been due to return to Co Kerry in the New Year to work on a house to which he and his wife planned to retire.
The whole family had planned to visit Kerry at Easter and had maintained close ties to the area where Ms MacMuiris's uncle Maurice still lives.
Ms MacMuiris (pictured) had attended Dromclough National School briefly as a child, before the family returned to Wales.
A statement from them said: "As a family, we are heartbroken and devastated by the loss of our beautiful daughter.
"Our lives will never, ever be the same again.
"Charmaine was taken from her children, grandchild and all her family in the most cruel of ways on Christmas Day. No family should ever have to face such a tragedy."
The family has appealed for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.
Tributes have flooded into a Facebook page called 'In Memory of Charmaine MacMuiris', which was set up by her friends since her tragic death.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised.
