A GREEN Party councillor was nominated for the Seanad yesterday following the dramatic resignation of Deirdre de Burca and her attack on the party's leadership.
Mark Dearey (pictured) is one of only three candidates to win council seats for the Green Party in last year's local elections.
He will replace Ms de Burca, who resigned earlier this month, saying the Greens had abandoned their values in Government before claiming she had been "shafted" by coalition partner Fianna Fail over a European post.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen put Mr Dearey, a Louth county councillor from Dundalk, forward for the seat.
Mr Dearey (46) is a businessman, music promoter and vintner.
