AS the winter weather sets in, it brings with it dangerous driving conditions and a spike in road accidents. And the horror of one of these car crashes was recreated yesterday to warn young drivers.
The simulation was held on the UCD campus by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, leaving audiences shocked by what they witnessed. Two people – a woman in her early 20s and a young male – were "injured" in this horrific two- car collision, right.
Emergency services, including members of the gardai, paramedics and fire brigade, supported the initiative and were on the scene to rescue the two victims from the carnage of the head-on collision.
The young male was arrested by the gardai after failing a breathalyser test. The young woman was taken to hospital to be treated for a serious head injury, as she had not been wearing a seatbelt.
The simulation was created as part of the Winter Road Casualty Reduction Programme.
A spokesperson for the council said: "This is an innovative way of bringing home the very real impact of car accidents."
