Goods seized from spate of burglaries

Gardai have seized a haul of goods which they believe was stolen in a crime spree across four counties in the past couple of months, writes Tom Brady.

The find was made as officers investigated 35 burglaries in Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Wexford.

Gardai from the south-eastern region recovered a quantity of cash, jewellery and electrical goods.

The inquiries were part of Operation Laidir, which feeds into the nationwide crackdown on burglars, Operation Fiacla.

Dublin operation Acer has led to the seizure of property worth €170,000, including large amounts of cash, electrical goods and high-value jewellery while vehicles, worth around €500,000, have been recovered.

Acer has also resulted in the arrest of 398 people while 611 charges have been brought and applications made for 19 summonses.

Two suspects have already been convicted and jailed.

As part of Laidir, gardai intercepted one car, which they believe was used in a total of 80 burglaries in the south east and eastern regions.
