Quoting Samuel Beckett and remaining steadfastly upbeat, the country's most prominent gay politician, David Norris, yesterday waved goodbye (above) to the presidential race.
He admitted publicly for the first time that he was wrong to seek clemency for an ex-partner jailed in Israel for child rape.
He also condemned Ezra Yizhak Nawi's "disgraceful behaviour" and apologised to his supporters.
