OLYMPIC hero Katie Taylor couldn't keep the smile off her face as she picked up the RTE Sports Person of the Year award, despite a technical glitch during the presentation.

The Bray boxer looked radiant as she was awarded a final accolade in a year of incredible achievements.

And the muscular athlete looked particularly feminine in a pale pink dress, accessorised with gold jewellery with her hair swept to one side.

But viewers were left disappointed when RTE cut to an ad break as Katie (26) was collecting her trophy from Minister for Sport Leo Varadkar.

Head of RTE sport Ryle Nugent sent a message on Twitter apologising that the ad break disrupted the ceremony.

“Sincere apologies for the technical issue at the end of tonight's programme,” he said.

“We're investigating how it happened.”

The Bray boxer, who brought home Ireland's only gold from London 2012, is planning a well deserved break over the Christmas period.

This year the world champion will take a full two days off – one more day than last year.

But she said that she is gearing up to get back in the ring after St Stephen's Day.

“I am just looking forward to focusing on my training after Christmas. It has been tough over the last few weeks fitting everything in,” she said.

She said that she hopes that women's boxing will be added to the World Series of Boxing (WSB) in the new year.

“I was over in Armenia recently and I was talking to Dr Woo (President of AIBA) – interested in getting women in WSB,” she said.

“It has been such a great year for women's boxing so we need to keep pushing on.”

And the world champion credited the Irish fans for cheering her on to glory.

“It was incredible the amount of support I had,” she said.

“I think my dreams became the whole nation's dream.”

Stars from the world of sport put on the glitz at the ceremony at RTE studios last night.

Donegal GAA boss Jim McGuinness's wife Marie sparkled in a full-length black sequinned gown, while Kate Kelly, Karen Atkinson and Ursula Jacob opted for multi-coloured dresses as they picked up the award for the Wexford camogie team.

The Cork ladies’ football team representatives Briege Corkery, Rena Buckley and Geraldine O'Flynn opted for mini-skirts and short dresses for the awards.

Donegal picked up the accolade for Team of the Year.
