Going for Sam. . . with or without Bono
AFTER 60 years of disappointment, the men from Mayo have recruited a secret weapon in their bid to regain Sam -- Bono.
The rockstar nailed his colours to the mast as he jetted into Knock Airport yesterday where he was presented with a Mayo jersey.
Bono, his wife Ali, and The Edge flew in from Nice in France, where they have summer homes, for a short visit to the county.
Joe Gilmore, managing director of Ireland West Airport, said hopes were alive that they might lift the Sam Maguire for the first time since 1951.
"We have a big sporting occasion coming up (Kerry in the semi-final) so we asked Bono if he would pose for a few pictures.
He said it might not go down well with his mates in Dublin, but he was prepared to get into the spirit of the occasion," explained Joe.
