OUTSPOKEN Green Party TD Paul Gogarty was given a "fool's pardon" by Labour last night after he hit out at its "gutless" leader.
Mr Gogarty launched a scathing attack on Labour leader Eamon Gilmore yesterday, describing him as "gutless Gilmore" for not taking a stand on certain political issues.
The backbench TD was unapologetic about his tirade, claiming the Labour leader's "lack of policies would be funny if it weren't so serious".
Labour last night refused to be drawn into a debate but a spokesman claimed they were simply giving Mr Gogarty a "fool's pardon".
Mr Gogarty's attack on the Labour leader came after the latest opinion poll showed the Greens falling to 2pc and Labour rocketing to 33pc. It also came as Labour opposed an extension to the banking guarantee and hit out at the costs of bailing out the banks.
The Green Party TD has been at the centre of major controversy before, most memorably for cursing in the Dail.
