Glitch hits bank cash withdrawals
Cash withdrawals from Ireland's largest bank were restricted after it was struck with a major technical fault as the country's harshest Budget was revealed.
Bank of Ireland, which is covered by the bank guarantee scheme, confirmed the amount of cash customers can withdraw from staff and cash machines as an up to date balance cannot be recorded.
It is understood the historic balance seen is from about 24 hours earlier.
While all branches and ATMs remained open, its telephone and online banking services are also out of order.
A spokeswoman for Bank of Ireland said some customers may be unable to conduct point-of-sale transactions but Bank of Ireland credit card transactions are unaffected.
"We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience they are experiencing and wish to assure them that we are working with our IT partners to ensure that all services are reinstated as a priority," she added.
