Glen appoints Jillian van Turnhout to carry out review of organisation
Senator Jillian van Turnhout has been appointed by the Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (Glen) to carry out a review of the organisation.
The announcement comes just a day after Glen's chairperson, Kieran Rose, resigned.
Mr Rose said he was resigning "with regret" after concerns were raised over his unsuccessful Seanad campaign being run from Glen's office.
In a statement he revealed the organisation backed his Seanad campaign to the tune of €11,500.
The Irish Independent previously revealed that Mr Rose did not disclose the help he got from Glen during his Seanad Campaign to the State's political standards watchdog.
The Charities Regulator subsequently directed Glen to provide information including financial reports, details of staff credit cards and the report of an independent auditor.
Ms van Turnhout, who was experience governing not-for-profit organisations, will begin her work on Monday and is expected to report to the board within six weeks.
In a statement, Glen said Ms van Turnhout was widely respected and that her work would focus on advising the board on corporate governance and compliance issues.
"She will also advise the board on strategic decisions regarding the future of Glen and will engage with staff, stakeholders and board members before making recommendations on the future direction of the organisation,” the statement said.
