Cathal Reilly (28), and his partner Sinead Clinton (27), had taken a romantic two-night break in Sligo.

Sinead, a beauty therapist at the Radisson Blu Farnham Estate Hotel in Cavan, had been due to work today.

The couple were locked out of the Sligo City Hotel after leaving their keys behind after going out in the town for a meal.

But just after 1.45am yesterday Mr Reilly fell to his death after trying to climb through a window at the side of the hotel.

He fell just 15 feet from railings, but he hit his head and was pronounced dead a short time later at Sligo Regional Hospital.

The distance from the railings to the footpath is just four feet, but there is a bigger drop on the other side and that's where Cathal fell, gardai said.

Sinead hurt her ankle whilst jumping down to help him. She was treated in hospital but later discharged.

The couple had been living in Sinead's home village of Oldcastle, Co Meath. Mr Reilly was originally from Virginia, Co Cavan. His uncle Eamon said: "The whole family is just devastated."

Friends said the couple were "inseparable".

LOVE

"There's a lovely picture of them together taken over the Christmas holidays and they both had that same picture as their profile snaps on Facebook," said one friend.

"They were just a young couple very much in love."

A colleague of Sinead's at the Radisson Blu Hotel said: "We are all very upset. They were on an early Valentine's break because Cathal wanted to give her a special treat and he knew she was working on Valentine's Day."

Last night Sinead uploaded a last snap taken this week of the couple, smiling and happy together.

"He was the best looking man in Meath and he was mine," said Sinead on a post below her last picture of boyfriend Cathal.

The Sligo City Hotel refused to comment on the incident.

However it's understood night staff were on duty at the hotel when the incident happened.

Gardai described the death as a "tragic incident" and are carrying out an investigation.

Hundreds of people have been attending Cathal’s wake in Oldcastle, County Meath today.

He will be laid to rest in his native Cavan tomorrow after 1pm Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church in Kilbeg.

Mr Reilly is survived by his parents Gerard and Margaret, his four sisters Grace, Helena, Lorna and Jessica and his girlfriend Sinead.
