Girl, 12, suffers burns in petrol bomb attack

A 12-year-old girl was badly burned in a petrol bomb attack on a home in Longford town today.

The youngster was injured when a number of men set fire to the house on an estate in the town.

A 21-year-old man was arrested shortly after the midnight attack.

A Garda spokesman said four other people, all believed to be in their 20s, were in the house in Padraic Colum Heights when the arsonists struck.

The injured girl was taken to Mullingar Hospital and later transferred to the burns unit at Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin.

Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The house was substantially damaged in the petrol bomb attack, which was believed to be linked to a feud between families.

The arrested man was detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Garda detectives appealed for anyone with information on the attack to contact them.
