A FORMER Clare priest was yesterday ordained to the episcopacy at a ceremony in St Peter's Basilica in Rome, writes John Cooney.
Archbishop Eugene Nugent, from Gurtaderra, Scarriff, Co Clare, was appointed last month by Pope Benedict as Apostolic Nuncio to Madagascar and Aspostolic Delegate to the Comoros Islands. His Episcopal motto is: "Do whatever he tells you."
Bishop of Killaloe, Willie Walsh, described Archbishop Nugent (pictured above and left by Ray McManus) as "a gifted and well respected priest who has given great service to the Diocese of Killaloe and to the Holy See."
