The Minions have been travelling the world since time began to find their leader (or so the film goes...) and it seems their latest destination was north Dublin.

There was traffic chaos in the Santry area of Dublin today after a giant inflatable Minion flew loose onto the Old Swords Road.

Gardai were called to the scene at approximately 3pm where they were helped by passers-by to let the air out of the giant inflatable creature, believed to be '40-foot' high.

Santry-based Erin Van Londen witnessed the incident and alerted the gardai.

"We were driving down to the shopping centre and we saw the giant balloon coming towards us," Erin told Independent.ie.

"We were in the queue of traffic but we pulled out into the industrial centre, just to be at a safe distance from the balloon.

"I had seen it yesterday in the carnival when we were driving down and I’d said to my boyfriend, ‘There is an absolutely huge inflatable Minion in there’.

"So today when we saw it, we thought ‘Oh wait, it must have toppled over’.

Erin alerted gardai to the incident where they deflated the giant balloon.

"It was a bizarre enough phone call," she laughed.

"I haven’t seen the film but I think everyone knows the Minions.

"Nobody was injured so everyone seems to have had a bit of fun from it."
