SEQUELS and reboots will dominate the silver screen in 2013 in what is tipped to be a bumper year for the Irish cinema business.

Up to 31 sequels and 17 reboots are expected to hit our screens as producers – stung by a series of recent flops – bank on tried-and-tested concepts.

Second outings for 'The Muppets', 'The Smurfs', 'GI Joe' and 'Bad Santa'.

At least two trilogies will be completed with 'Iron Man 3' and 'The Hangover 3', while even more familiar offerings are in the pipeline with 'Die Hard 5', 'Scary Movie 5' and 'Paranormal Activity 5'.

And planned sixth outings of 'X-Men' and 'Fast and Furious' are seen as a sure bet of making a fortune at the box office.

Meanwhile, some of the more high-profile reboots in the pipeline include the Superman film 'Man of Steel', a new version of 'The Evil Dead' and a highly-anticipated reincarnation of 'Mad Max'.
