IRISH donors have raised almost €4m to ease the Horn of Africa famine crisis.
Trocaire yesterday said the response was "very generous despite these trying economic times".
The final total is expected to be even higher once parish collections from the August bank holiday weekend are calculated. Aid agency GOAL confirmed it has raised more than €800,000 in its famine appeal.
Oxfam Ireland said it has also received close to €800,000 in donations from the general public since it launched its East Africa Emergency appeal earlier this month.
