Gay gets Green light

GAY BYRNE said goodbye to the radio studio yesterday and today thousands of his listeners will flock to Dublin's St Stephen's Green to bid farewell to him.
But because huge crowds are expected, the programme has been moved from its usual Grafton Street venue to the Green.
The broadcaster says it will be business as usual. ``I don't want it to be a `goodbye Gay' occasion,'' he said.
Y'wha Gay? Not a chance. The world and his wife will be there, along with the Riverdance team, D'Unbelievables and a mystery Santa.
Gay's Late Late Show will continue for a further six months.
And then, what should a grateful nation do for its favourite uncle? Put him on the honours list, says Deputy Beverley Cooper-Flynn.
What honours list? Well, there isn't one, but if the Government decides to act on a recommendation by an All-Party Oireachtas Committee and set one up, then the Mayo TD reckons Mr Byrne should be the first name on it.
