A COMMEMORATION of former US President John F Kennedy's visit to Ireland is among the first confirmed events for the Government's controversial The Gathering initiative.
The Gathering 2013 is the Government's marketing centrepiece for the tourism industry next year which aims to bring an extra 325,000 visitors to Ireland.
More than 6.2 million visited from overseas last year.
Wexford became the first county to confirm its plans, with 20 different events, including the biggest ever Wexford Opera Festival.
President Kennedy will be honoured in New Ross during a series of events for the JFK50 – 50 years after the visit of the president to his ancestral home.
