GARDAI have smashed a gang they believe responsible for seven armed robberies in west Dublin.
Three suspects, including a 40-year-old woman who is allegedly the getaway driver, were last night in garda custody.
The three were intercepted by gardai after an armed raid at the Applegreen filling station on Clonsilla Road on Thursday night.
Two men, armed with a handgun and a knife, held up staff at the station and made off with a couple of hundred euro.
But as a result of an intelligence operation, armed officers intercepted a car as it was being driven out of the forecourt.
Gardai seized the two weapons, recovered the cash and arrested three suspects.
Gardai believe the robbery was linked to six other raids on filling stations and convenience stores.
Officers said last night that none of the raids involved a huge amount of money but the total taken in the seven robberies amounted to a lucrative haul for the gang.
