Gardai seize tobacco worth €850,000 during morning raid

Items discovered included tobacco worth €850,000, boxes of cigarettes, alcohol labels and 60 litres of what appears to be un-distilled alcohol.

Gardai discovered a large amount of tobacco with a value of almost €1m during a seizure in Co Louth this morning.

Gardai recovered the tobacco, with an approximate value of €850,000, and various other items including empty pouches and equipment for sealing pouches at a premises at Proleek, Ravensdale, Dundalk, Co Louth in the early hours of the morning.

The search was conducted at approximately 7.45am and other items discovered included boxes of cigarettes, alcohol labels and 60 litres of what appears to be un-distilled alcohol.

Gardaí from Dundalk, Garda Regional Support Units, and officers from Revenues Customs Service were all involved in the search.

The scene has been sealed off for technical examination and the items seized will be taken for analysis.

There have been no arrests at this time.
