GARDAI seized a handgun in a raid on a house after a woman sought hospital treatment for a gunshot wound.
The woman, in her 30s, attended Mercy University Hospital in Cork after suffering an injury to her upper leg.
The wound was not life-threatening.
Gardai were immediately notified, and officers, supported by members of the armed Regional Support Unit, raided a property off Kilmore Road in Knocknaheeny in the city shortly before 2am yesterday and recovered the handgun.
The weapon turned out to be a high-powered pellet gun. No arrests were made, but gardai are preparing a file for the DPP.
