Gardai seized 22 puppies and a pregnant dog at Dublin Port from a vehicle that was boarding a ship to England.
The puppies were seized by a commercial garda vehicle unit when they were carrying out a checkpoint at Dublin Port at 1am on Tuesday August 23.
The puppies were found without the relevant papers and are now in the care of the DSPCA.
The puppies were not microchipped and appear to be aged between 8 and 10 weeks old. They are currently undergoing veterinary care at the DSPCA.

"This current seizure is sadly yet another example of the absence of any regard to the health and welfare of puppies by those involved in the illegal trafficking of Puppies from Ireland," said the DSPCA.
Gardai said no arrests have been made and that they are investigating the incident.
