Gardai seek help after pensioner dies in two-car crash

GARDAI have launched an appeal for witnesses after an elderly man died following a two-car crash in Co Limerick.

The 77-year-old died in the early hours of this morning after being involved in a collision on the Old Dublin Road at Lisnagry at around 2.20pm on Thursday.

Firemen had to cut the victim along with the 75-year-old driver from their car before they were rushed to hospital by ambulance.

He was one of three men injured in the crash, about five miles outside Limerick city, and taken to Mid Western Regional Hospital.

The 75-year-old driver remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the other car, 48, was also treated for his injuries, which were not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardai at Henry Street have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

The Lisnagry Road was reopened yesterday evening following a forensic examination of the scene.
