A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital following a suspected assault in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to the serious assault at Harold’s Cross in Dublin at about 4am.

Shortly after 4am Gardaí and ambulance services were called to an incident outside Park View Apartments, Harold’s Cross. A 57 year old man was discovered injured in what Gardaí believe to have been an assault. The injured man is in a serious condition in St James' Hospital.

"The suspect may have left the scene in the direction of Terenure and Gardaí are examining CCTV in the area and carrying out door to door enquiries," a garda spokesman said.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the Harold’s Cross area of Dublin between 3.30am and 4am this morning to contact them at Rathmines Garda Station on 01 666 6700.

Meanwhile, gardai are also investigating a separate incident in which a man was stabbed a number of times in the car park of an apartment block on the northside of the city.

The incident happened at approximately 9.20pm last night at Island Key apartments in East Wall.

It is thought that the man was stabbed up to four times in the arms, leg and back - but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
