Gardai probe fraud claim at credit union

Gardai are investigating an alleged major fraud at a credit union, writes Tom Brady.

It is understood that a "substantial" six-figure sum is involved in the irregularities at the Dublin lending agency.

Gardai confirmed last night that officers were called in after suspected financial irregularities were discovered.

Staff at the credit union at Seamus Ennis Road, Finglas, west Dublin, discovered what they believed to be irregularities and contacted gardai, who have been in touch with detectives from the National Bureau of Fraud Investigation.

One officer said they were looking at least at a figure running well into six figures and "possibly higher".

A credit union spokesman could not be contacted for comment last night.
