Gardai probe fires near gas terminal

Gardai in north Co Mayo are investigating two forest fires close to the controversial Corrib gas terminal.

The cause of the fires has not been established but gardai believe they may be "agricultural-related" rather than linked to the contentious gas project. Belmullet fire brigade brought a blaze in a forest at Bellagelly, about half a kilometre from the gas terminal, under control.

Three held over loyalist's murder

POLICE were questioning three men last night over the murder of a top loyalist on Friday. Bobby Moffett was gunned down in Belfast's Shankill Road. Police arrested a 35-year-old man last night in connection with the killing. They are also questioning two men aged 25 and 31 who were arrested earlier yesterday.

A fourth man aged 49, arrested on Friday night, was released yesterday morning.
