Gardai investigating a reported kidnap attempt on a 10-year-old girl as she walked to school yesterday morning were last night examining footage taken from CCTV cameras in the area.
The girl told a family member that a man had pulled her into a car but she managed to escape shortly afterwards when the car slowed down in traffic.
The incident is alleged to have taken place at Boghall Road in Bray, Co Wicklow, as the girl was making her way to the nearby Bray School Project National School on Killarney Road.
After the alarm was raised the school sent a text message to parents of pupils to advise them to be vigilant.
The girl reported that her attacker had been driving a white Volkswagen Golf and had pulled her into a back seat. But she jumped out of the car when the vehicle was in traffic and escaped through a car park and down a back lane leading to the school.
Gardai said last night that the road would have been very busy at the time and appealed to motorists or pedestrians, who spotted any suspicious activity in the area between 8.30am and 8.45am, to contact them at Bray station.
