Gardai are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a young man in a field near Swords in north county Dublin this afternoon.
The grim find was made by a farmer, who was spraying crops in his field near a church at Balheary.
He made a 999 call to the emergency services.
Gardai arrived and sealed off the area while they awaited the arrival of a State pathologist and technical bureau members.
The man, who was in his early 20s was lying face down on a dirt track in the field, near a farmhouse.
Gardai said he was fully clothed but had no identifying documents with him and they were making inquiries in the area.
They believe the man could have been in the field overnight. A medical examination at the scene showed no obvious signs of injury.
The farmer told gardai he had walked along the track yesterday afternoon.
One senior garda said: “At this stage we are looking at all options and will have an open mind until a post mortem has been carried out at Blanchardstown hospital”.
