AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a man was injured in a hatchet attack outside a court house.
The incident occurred at 1.45pm today, outside Newcastle West District Court in Limerick.
A dispute arose on the street between two men outside the courthouse, which was in recess for lunch at the time.
Members of the public said a number of loud shouts were heard and claimed that a man had been attacked with an assailant armed with hatchet.
The alleged victim also claimed the implement had been used in the attack.
Neither party were involved in a court case, although it’s understood a relative of one the parties involved in the attack had attended court.
The alleged victim gave a description of his attacker.
It is understood the victim’s injuries were minor.
A number of gardai arrived at the scene but no arrests were made.
Investigations are continuing.
