GARDAI are hunting an armed gang who made off with more than €10,000 after holding up a security guard collecting the weekend takings from a Dublin pub today.
At least two raiders were involved in the robbery, which took place at lunchtime outside the Old Mill pub at Old Bawn Road in Tallaght on the southside of the city.
The raiders, armed with a shotgun and a hammer, attacked the security guard as he was coming out of the premises with the money.
The full extent of the haul from the cash in transit raid has not yet been estimated but it is reckoned to have been between €10,000 and €15,000 in cash and cheques.
The raiders made off in an Avensis car, which was later found burnt out a short distance away at the Allerton estate in Tallaght.
The car had been stolen over the weekend in Rathfarnham.
