Gardai foil cash-in-transit raid and arrest four
Heavily armed gardai foiled a cash-in-transit heist yesterday and arrested four people, including a woman, as a security van pulled up outside a post office.
The drama unfolded about 3.15pm at the post office in the Knocklyon shopping centre in south west Dublin.
The attempted raid went wrong for the criminal gang right from the start, with members of the Emergency Response Unit lying in wait for them.
The cash van, carrying a significant amount of money, pulled up outside the post office. Gardai intercepted and searched a car and recovered a sawn-off shotgun and sledge hammer. Three men, two in their 20s, and one in his 30s, were arrested at the scene. A woman, in her 20s, was also arrested nearby.
They are being held in Tallaght and Rathfarnham stations under the Offences Against the State Act.
