GARDAI have discovered a haul of cannabis plants while investigating the murder of a young man more than two years ago.

The search was part of inquiries into the fatal shooting of Dubliner Stephen Hanaphy in the Sliabh Breagh estate, Ardee, in October 2010.

Gardai made their ninth arrest yesterday when they raided a house in Dunleer, Co Louth. They detained a man in his early 20s. As they were searching the house, officers found the cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €3,200.

During searches of a second property at Rathgorey gardai seized 600,000 cigarettes, which had a retail value of €282,000. Also discovered were eleven bulk containers of alcohol with pumps and filtration equipment at a commercial shed.
