Gardai find 50 pedigree pups in raid on cars

GARDAI on a routine patrol busted a cross-channel smuggling operation dealing in pedigree pups.

The uniformed gardai spotted two cars stopped on a rarely used road on Dublin's northside. The cars had stopped on the old Malahide Road near an industrial estate in the Coolock area. The gardai searched both cars and found 50 pups .

They included 25 Jack Russells, Labradors, Springer Spaniels, a Beagle and a hound. Two British men in their 20s and 30s nationals are still in garda custody.

It is believed they are part of an overseas dog smuggling operation, The pups were taken in quarantine and are in the care of the DSPCA. Gardai have now initiated an animal cruelty investigation.
