Gardai fear spate of sex attacks are linked

GARDAI are investigating similarities between a series of sexual assaults on young women.

There have been a number of attacks reported in Letterkenny, Co Donegal in recent months.

The most recent occurred earlier this week when an 18-year-old teenager was assaulted just off the town's main street at around 2.45am. She succeeded in fighting off her attacker but was very traumatised by the incident.

The location, the time of the attack and the description of the assailant has led gardai to connect the incident with at least three other attacks in the area.

Yesterday, Supt. Jim Gallagher renewed an appeal to women to be extra vigilant on the streets of the town late at night.

"These attacks have occurred within half a mile of each other at roughly the same time of the morning when the town is quiet so we are appealing to women to exercise caution," he said.
