Gardai fear rival gang killed missing criminal

Gardai believe missing criminal Philip O'Toole may be dead.

The 32-year-old father of one has not been seen since Monday week and there are serious concerns that he may have fallen foul of an organised crime gang.

His two-door BMW coupe was found parked the following evening in Bray, Co Wicklow.

A witness claimed to have spotted the car in the Wicklow mountains and gardai have carried out searches in that area.

O'Toole, who has drugs related convictions, previously survived a gun attack at Enniskerry, Co Wicklow, in August 2011.

Officers believe this attack – during which O'Toole was shot in the stomach as he struggled with the gunman – was linked to a "turf war" between two gangs involved in drugs.

Gardai said the missing man was well-known to them.

He was described as 5ft 7in tall, with brown hair and of medium build.

An incident room has been set up at Bray garda station.
