Gardai carry out bus lane enforcement on college green during rush hour
GARDAI raised eyebrows in the capital this morning after deciding to crack down on motorists illegally driving in the bus lane during the city's busy rush hour.
The enforcement took place on Westmoreland Street near Trinity college.
Part of the street is already suffering from congestion due to the Luas cross-city works taking place.
However a garda spokesperson defended the move.
"These checks relate to the College Green Bus Corridor.
"Gardai detected 30 bus corridor offences among others this morning", he told Independent.ie.
He was unable to disclose how times for enforcements are selected due to 'operational reasons'.
Officers have also been carrying out a crackdown on rogue taxi drivers in recent days.
