Gardai back pay deal

Mid-ranking gardai have come out strongly in favour of the Croke Park pay deal, writes Tom Brady.
Members of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors voted by 86pc to ratify the agreement. This is the biggest "yes" vote so far on the terms of the controversial deal.
Three out of every five members of the association took part in the vote, which is quite high by union standards. Last night the association's national executive welcomed the outcome of the ballot.
General secretary Joe Dirwan said the agreement was very far from being perfect, "a fact, which we pointed to out members". He said they had voted to accept the agreement as being their share of the sacrifice needed to put the economy back on track.
The rank and file Garda Representative Association has yet to announce the outcome of its vote on the pay terms.
