This follows the arrest yesterday of the prime suspect in their investigation into the death of Stephen Hughes Connors (12).

The boy was camping in a makeshift hut with his friend when they were engulfed in flames shortly before 5am on September 1, 2001, at Rossfield Avenue in the Brookfield area of Tallaght, Co Dublin.

Last night the boy's family said they hoped the latest developments would finally bring closure to the tragedy.

The arrest follows lengthy inquiries by local gardai and a review of the crime by members of the garda cold case unit.

Officers yesterday detained the suspect, who is in his 50s, outside Mountjoy Prison and brought him to Tallaght station where he can be held for up to 24 hours.
