Gardaí investigating a hit and run accident at a Luas crossing on Friday night have arrested a man.

A 40-year-old female pedestrian was fatally injured when she was struck by a car, which failed to remain at the scene.

The woman was crossing the road at Golden Bridge Luas stop at the time she was struck.

Last night Gardai arrested a man in the drimnagh area of Dublin and is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Sundrive Road Garda Station.

Gardaí are still trying to locate the offending car; described as dark coloured, possible a Ford Focus and either 08 or 09 registration.

The car left in the direction of Naas Road.

Gardai say this car would have damage to the front and to the windscreen.

There have been reported sightings of the car in the Fonthill Road, Newlands Cross, Nangor Road and Firhouse areas.
