Garda watchdog probes death of man who fell ill in custody
THE Garda Ombudsman Commission has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who became unwell while in Garda custody this morning.
The man, who is in his 40s, was arrested in the east Cork town of Midleton about 6.30am today and was taken to Midleton Garda Station.
It is understood he arrived at the station shortly after 6.30am and is believed to have become unwell shortly after 7am.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he died.
A post-mortem will take place at Cork University Hospital.
