Garda taken to hospital after he attempted to rescue person trapped in house fire

A garda has been taken to hospital and is being treated for smoke inhalation.

A garda was taken to hospital today after he attempted to rescue someone from a house fire.

The incident happened on Walkinstown Road in Dublin 12 where two people were involved in an altercation.

Gardai were called to the scene this morning. However, a fire had broken out by the time they got to the location.

One of the officers then attempted to rescue a person who was in a bedroom of the house.

The garda got into difficulty and was taken from the property by firefighters.

He had suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries were not thought to be serious. The person inside the three-bed home was rescued by the firefighters.

It is understood a man was arrested at the scene.
