A Garda sergeant has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting two female colleagues.

The officer, who cannot be named, is accused of three separate attacks in March and June last year at a Dublin garda station.

The sergeant, aged in his late 40s, appeared briefly at the Bridewell District Court in the capital.

He is charged with sexually assaulting one Garda colleague twice and a second colleague on one occasion.

One of the alleged offences took place on March 21, a second on June 2 and a third on June 4 last year, the court was told.

The accused was remanded on bail to appear again before the District Court on October 24.

Judge Bridget Reilly ordered that the garda and his place of work not be identified.

He was charged under section two of the Criminal Law (Rape) (Amendment) Act.
