Garda hospitalised after boiling oil is poured over him
A garda was seriously injured yesterday after boiling oil was thrown over his face and chest.
The garda, who is in his 20s, was attending a domestic incident on James's Street in Dublin yesterday when the attack happened.
The incident occurred when gardaí from Kilmainham Garda Station were called to the scene at Mary Aikenhead House.
The garda is being treated in the burns unit of St James's hospital and is said to be in a deep state of shock.
A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the attack. She is expected to be brought to court this morning.
A man in his 30s was also injured in the attack but was later discharged from hospital.
Commenting on the guard’s injuries, the president of the Garda Representative Association, Damien McCarthy, said: "This clearly highlights the type of dangers gardai are facing every day."
