A garda has been arrested over the theft of 9,000 euro from a Garda station.
Gardai said a man in his 30s was detained over the missing cash, part of a 26,000 euro haul recovered from a botched shop heist earlier this year.
The money had been bagged and tagged following a hold-up when it was stolen from Balbriggan garda station.
A garda spokesman said the suspect was arrested at about 11am on Friday and taken in for questioning to a Dublin city station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The money was discovered missing when John Wilson, owner of the Village Store in Lusk, north Co Dublin, asked for it back in mid-February, several weeks after his business was raided.
Classed as evidence from the shop robbery, it had been stored in a safe in Balbriggan station.
A detective superintendent from Ballymun garda station was appointed to head up an internal inquiry.
