THESE were the chaotic scenes yesterday when protesters daubed paint all over the Department of Justice.
Gardai were alerted as a small number of people tried to cover signage outside Alan Shatter’s department with white paint.
One protester held a placard reading: “Alan Shatter’s Irish justice system.”
Another read: “Shatter Out Whitewashing Crime and Injustice.”
Around 20 people had gathered outside the department for the protest.
A window of the building ended up covered with paint, as did the official sign at the entrance to the building.
Even garda uniforms did not escape, with one officer being covered in white paint as he attempted to arrest those responsible.
Passer-bys on their way home from work took out mobile phones to take photos and record the protest.
The garda public order unit van was at the scene in Dublin’s city centre.
Three men and a woman were arrested following the incident which happened at around 6.30pm.
They were taken to Pearse Street garda station.
