Garda 'attacked with bottle' in incident which ended up with a car being burned out

A garda has been injured in an incident which ended up with a car being burned out on a Dublin road in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened sometime between 4.30am and 5.30am on the Ratoath Road that links Cabra to Finglas.

Gardaí responded to a call of a reported disturbance and a car on fire at New Campbell’s Bridge in Cabra.

A male garda was attacked by a man in his thirties on arrival to the scene.

He was assaulted with what is believed to be a bottle.

The Garda was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where he received a number of stitches to his leg.

He has since been discharged from hospital.

A car, which was possible stolen, was then burned out on the flyover that crosses the M50 near the Marian School for the Deaf.

Gardaí at Finglas in Dublin are investigating the incident on New Campbell’s Bridge.

A man in his thirties has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently detained at Finglas Garda Station.
