Gardaí arrest man (20) after criminal damage spree in early hours of this morning

Gardaí are appealing for information after a criminal damage spree was carried out in an Irish town in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí in Edenderry, Co Offaly arrested the 20-year-old at a school in the town this morning.

They are now investigating a number of criminal damage incidents which occurred.

There were a number of windows damaged in Edenderry Garda Station and damage also occurred at a filling station on Tullamore Road, gardaí report.

The suspected offender then continued to cause damage to a school in Edenderry and, when he gained entry into the school, started a small fire.

Gardaí arrested the young man at the scene and he is currently detained under Section 4, Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Tullamore Garda Station.

They are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time to contact Edenderry Garda Station on 046-9731290.
