Gardai have appealed for information on two separate fatal road crashes at the weekend

Two people lost their lives in fatal collisions on Irish roads this weekend.

A male motorcyclist was fatally injured when his motorcycle collided with a wall on the Cork to Macroom road (N22) at around 5:15pm yesterday. The incident took place in an area known as Garryhesta.

Gardai in Ballincollig, Cork are investigating the single-vehicle collision and are appealing for people with information to contact them.

A 50-year-old male died when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car at Ballinastoe near Roundwood, Co Wicklow at approximately 1:50pm yesterday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second motorcyclist and the male driver of a car were also injured in the collision. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardai at Wicklow Garda Station are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Meanwhile, Gardai spent more than two hours this morning working to clear vehicles and livestock on the M9 northbound between Kilcullen and Athy following a collision between a lorry and a jeep towing livestock.

A vet attended the scene and the lane has re-opened to traffic.
