Garda appeal after vicious assault

GARDAI have asked for witnesses to come forward after a young man man suffered horrific facial injuries in an early morning fracas between two groups of Christmas revellers.

Gardai are hoping CCTV security camera footage will help identify a group that left a 36-year-old man bleeding and semi-conscious on a pavement in Cork city centre.

The young man was last night in stable condition in Cork University Hospital where he is being treated for severe facial cuts inflicted by a broken bottle. The assault took place between 12.30am and 1.45am last Friday between Lavitt's Quay and St Patrick's Bridge.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to contact them at (021) 4522000 or via the Garda Confidential Helpline.
